I share the talent of "good" pictures with my sister.
Boo kitty can slide into anything as long as she can get her foot in first.
Jerry cat is the champion lick er of all the cats I have ever known.
My mom can type with her toes. My dad can hum and whistle at the same time. My sister can give herself polka-dot hair.
I'm sure that we all have many, many talents like the ones I just mentioned, but do you have a real talent? What is it? Do you recognize it as a talent? Some can sing and play an instrument, some are artists, some are writers/poets. those we know as talents, but what if we look at other things as talents too.... patiently waiting in line? Washing the 6th load of laundry without complaining or taking away all of the kids clothes? So maybe those are silly, but look at these... being considerate for others, or giving without recognition, or how about writing cards to those in the hospital or nursing home? What is a talent anyway? If it is based only on what I can physically do... well refer to above photo and that's about it. What do you think a talent is? I just wonder.....

Cool post Julie! Definitely something we all need to consider. When I first read your question, I thought I don't really have any special talents then I snickered to myself unless collecting the trash at potluck suppers counts and taking people drinks...
One thing I seriously feel called to is encouragement. I want to encourage people when they are down, I want to encourage them when they are up. I want people to realize their worth and value in God's sight. I want them to know that Jesus would have walked up calvary's hill just for them even if they were the only person on earth. I want people to know they are special and unique and that God has a special plan for each of them.
That is something that not everyone can do...so it's a talent I'd say. The trash thing on the other hand...well maybe a servants heart is the reason for that.:)
I love to read...and I came across this quote recently in Mel and Henry Blackaby's book, What's So Spiritual about Your Gifts?
"When He’s (Holy Spirit) present, it doesn’t matter what you can or cannot do. If you don’t have a lot of natural talent, you can thank God that you’re the perfect vessel for Him to show Himself powerful in you. Listen to His promise: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). In your weakness, He is strong. You are the person in whom He can do His best work, for He will get all the glory."
Julie, you have many talents. One of the reasons I have enjoyed blogging is because I get to see who you, your sis, and your mom are and what you think about things. It's been very interesting and enlightning. I think as we get older, we are able to recognize our talents or gifts more easily. The good thing about that is that we then know where we should serve and how we can help people. It makes life more satisfying. Also I think in order to recognize our abiltities means that we have to be places and in situations where we can try out things. If we isolate ourselves then we will know nothing about ourselves--we won't know we can do anything and we may not believe we have any talents. Q
When I went to back to work I found out there were things I could do that had never occurred to me. I worked in activities in a nursing home and found out I could actually organize big complicated activities, follow a routine, get to work on time, speak in front of people, lead singing (well...), teach, comfort, speak an opinion, and get along with cranky people. The more you experience, the more you find you are capable of. Some people are amazing prayer warriors, others are the doers of the deeds. It helps to try something new and see how it goes (unless it might cost someone their life).
Hey I tagged you in a 'meme'. Play along.
